All these points should be enough to motivate you to either 1 have your current shirts adjusted by a tailor or 2 consider buying custom-made dress shirts. The shoulder points are shifted beyond your shoulders and towards the neck. A lot of guys along with their moms and girlfriends don't actually know how a dress shirt should fit.
A great fitted shirt often has back darts, which allows the shirt to taper at the waist. Fitted shirts have a high armhole, allowing for a tapered sleeve that follows the shape of your arms without excess fabric.
When buttoned, the cuff should fall right at the base of the thumb there's room for some personal preference here. Just like your chest, your arms should fill out the sleeves of your shirt in a way that doesn't leave excess fabric. Excess fabric in the sleeves will often fold and billow giving an unflattering look. The shirt hem should be long enough for you to comfortable wear the shirt tucked or untucked.
Two ways to look for this: First, when your shirt is untucked and buttoned, the tail should fall just past the back pockets of your pants. Note, we say "pants," and not jeans, as most guys wear their jeans a little low on the waist. The second way to know whether you have the right length is to tuck in the shirt.
When tucked in, raise your arms above your head and see if the tails pop out from your pants. If so, your shirt could be a little too short. It doesn't matter if you're short, tall, slim, or broad - a fitted shirt is much more flattering than the alternative. You might even unlock a surprise. Collar Neck Collar size is measured in inches from buttonhole to button when laid flat. Chest The best dress shirts fit comfortably around the chest, under the armpits, and across the upper back, giving you a full range of motion.
Armhole The armhole of a dress shirt—its shape and size—dictates how a shirt will fit in the chest, shoulder, and armpit. The shirt can be tucked in without billowing whatsoever. The sleeves will limit your movement — and show off way too many wrinkles. The sleeves have so much slack that they naturally create folds of cloth all over — especially around the cuff. The sleeve should be slightly wider at the upper arm than the cuff — with a smooth, even taper.
This gives you enough freedom of movement. In terms of solutions, you may want to move the button or look for a larger size instead. The cuffs are wide enough to slide loosely over a watch — but still have enough room for some fingers to go in between the cloth and your skin.
Folds or wrinkles form in the cuff fabric when your arms rest against a flat surface like a table. The cuffs should fit close to the body while still allowing space between the fabric and your wrists. You can easily put the shirt on or take it off without unbuttoning the cuffs — and hardly any wrinkles are formed. The sleeves extend all the way to the heel of your hands. This leads to some fabric bunching up at the point where the cuffs end. The cuff should also touch and in some postures cover your watch whenever you wear it.
When the shirt is untucked, it barely covers your belt line or the waist of your trousers. When tucked in, some parts of the hem remain exposed and might pop out when your body moves or bends. The shirt tails are long enough to cover the crotch or extend beyond it. A tailor will be able to shorten this easily.
